Russell joined the Orange County Council as the Scout Executive January 2020. Prior, Russell was the Scout Executive for the Greater Niagara Frontier Council in Buffalo, New York, since 2012, where he led the Council back to profitability after years of losses, with an outstanding program and successes in membership growth and fundraising – resulting in the Council’s achievement of silver and gold JTE status. Prior to Buffalo, Russell was Director of Field Services and Director of Support Services in the Circle Ten Council in Dallas, one of the largest Councils in the BSA.
Russell’s name may seem familiar, as prior to Dallas, he was in Orange County where he served as Director of Camping Services, Senior District Executive and other Council roles from 1996 to 2004. Several members of our Selection Committee were familiar with Russell from his early days in our Council. Russell’s familiarity with our Council has allowed him to “hit the ground running” as our new Scout Executive. Russell’s legacy of leadership and success, along with an unwavering commitment to serving the Scouting family within our community, will help lead our Council to new heights!
